A lesson plan for students of English as a second language.

Students will be able to begin to discover the road/path they are on/in life.

The Road Not Taken pdf lesson plan has eight parts:

1 – Oral discussion

2 – Vocabulary – new words with practical use.

3 – Lower order thinking skills – basic questions about the poem.

4 – Higher order thinking skills – problem solving, symbolism and metaphors.

5 – Analysis and interpretation – how is this poem supposed to be understood.

6 – Bridging text and context – understanding the text with other texts that do not directly relate to the poem.

7 – Post reading and reflection

8 – Summative assessment – a final assessment of the students understanding of the poem.

The Road Not Taken pdf includes three worksheets, questions with some answers. It encourages students to think about their past and future, forming discussions. The thinking skill is problem solving. Symbolism and metaphors are also discussed.
